WA Bar Chanbers- Network Design

Francis Burt Chambers, named after an outstanding WA jurist, is the first set of barristers’ chambers established in Perth, currently occupying five floors of Allendale Square, an office tower in the Perth CBD. Francis Burt Chambers is owned and operated by W.A. Bar Chambers Limited. The company is the entity that engages in the commercial activities of chambers including the leasing of premises and licensing of portions of those premises to members of chambers.

Problem: With very little existing infrastructure and close to 150 users including members and administration staff, Metrowest IT was approached to help design a reliable network capable of sharing Chamber resources securely.

Solution: To reliably secure each member’s network from each other, we designed a secure hardware solution, which incorporated over 100 switched individual Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN).

The switched VLAN solution allowed for unlimited expansion with the flexibility to add and remove users from an individual network upon request.

We also incorporated into the design all the resources of the Chambers library including numerous online publications and a high speed Internet service that is protected by a hardware-based firewall.

These services, as well as access to printers, are available securely from each individual member’s office.
